It is so wonderful to see how much our students love to borrow and read library books. Every year we purchase new books to ensure that our students have a variety of literature for all interests and reading levels.
Lately we have noticed that many of our love books are being returned soiled and damaged. Many of the new materials are being returned with liquids or food contamination. Sadly, once these books become soiled, we can no longer circulate them to students due to mold or potential allergic reactions. Children are frequently disappointed because that one book they have been waiting to borrow was taken out of circulation.
Here are some suggestions to help us keep our collection and our students healthy.
Please wash your hands before using the library books so food and drink are not transferred onto the pages.
- Keep a plastic bag (Amazon or other delivery bags work well) in each backpack to store and protect books during transport to and from school.
- Keep books stored in backpacks while they are not being used. Keeping books in a bag in a student backpack ensures they will remember them when they are due and keeps replacement costs to a minimum.
Thanks for your help in keeping our collection accessible to our students!
